A field guide to the menu
Hash is the resin of the cannabis plant: the tiny golden heads of the trichomes, separated from the flower and collected into something you can hold.
Every style on the menu starts with those same heads. What changes is how they come off the plant and what happens to them next: screens, static, ice, water, heat or pressure. The method shapes the texture, the flavor and how cleanly a hash melts. Here is how to tell the styles apart, and where to find each one.
Static sift
Dry sift refined with static electricity: a charged surface lifts the light plant matter away and leaves the resin heads behind. No water, no solvents.
Dry sift
Resin knocked from dried, cured flower through a stack of fine screens. The screens are measured in microns: the "73u" or "90u" on a label.
Frozen sift
Dry sift made from fresh frozen plants. Sifted cold, the heads snap off cleanly and keep more of the fresh terpene profile.
Ice water hash
Also called bubble hash: the resin is washed off the plant with ice and water, then sorted through micron bags. The cleanest grades melt completely, which is where "full melt" comes from.
Filtered hash
Sift passed through extra rounds of fine filters to take out more plant matter, for a cleaner, more refined resin.
Mousse hash
A soft hash with a light, creamy, almost whipped texture that breaks apart easily.
Pressed hash
Sift or bubble hash pressed and cured into temple balls, piattella, slabs and egg hash. Pressing protects the terpenes; curing deepens the flavor.
Hash rosin
Ice water hash pressed with gentle heat and pressure until the oil flows. Nothing is added, so there is nothing to purge.
